It's the All-Star break and time to asses where the season is at. There are roughly 30 games left and the trading deadline is looming. Here is a look at the playoffs if they were today.

The Atlanta Hawks is creating a lot of buzz in the new season of the National Basketball Association.Despite their less stellar lineup, the Hawks is on top of the leader-board in the young season of the premier professional basketball league in the planet. The Hawks is currently sporting an impressive 11-2 record after they defeated the Houston Rockets 105-103 Friday night.High flying Hawks power forward Josh Smith played hero for the top team in the NBA by scoring on a put back from a miss by Hawks top point guard Mike Bibby with 0.7 seconds remaining. Marvin Williams, the starting small forward of the Hawks top scored for the team with 29 points to help defeat the Rockets, one of the top teams in the NBA Western Conference. The recent victory of the Hawks is remarkable since the Rockets are on the verge of defeating the team and hand them their third loss but the impressive play of Smith saved the youth laden ball club to escaped with a victory. Prior to his game winning shot, Smith stayed mostly from the bench due to foul trouble but he was able to returned in the waning moments of the game and lead his team to victory. The strong and impressive plays of the Hawks is getting huge praise from basketball fans and experts. During the off-season, the Hawks is not among the top contenders for the NBA crown this season due to their less star studded roster. However, despite the lack of big named players in its lineup, the Hawks still showed class and impressive talent to defeat 11 teams so far.Aside from the strong plays of its veteran players Smith, Bibby and Joe Johnson, the Hawks also get huge contribution from newly acquired NBA veteran Jamal Crawford who contribute in both offence and defence for the team. Aside from the Hawks, the run and gun Phoenix Suns is also playing good this NBA season. NBA superstars point-guard Steve Nash and power forward Amare Stoudamire are playing well to lead the Suns to an impressive record in the NBA.Fans of Hawks team can buy the tickets to watch the NBA game live.

Have you looked at the league leaders yet this season?
There are some familiar faces atop some of the big categories. Kobe leads the league in scoring. Nash leads the league in assists. Rondo leads the league in steals.

The Hawks appear to be sending both backup point guards to Golden State for Jamal Crawford. This brings makes signing Mike Bibby more imperative. To do so, they may not match offers that Marvin Williams receives. Acie Law and Speedy Claxton both are being shipped. Neither really played much last year. Joe Johnson lead the team in assist even though he isn't a point guard. I doubt they will use him as one. Andre Miller and Jason Kidd are both available on the market. My bet is on Bibby returning. Crawford could play the point, but he would be better off as the 2 guard. He did average 4.4 assist along wth 19.7 points.

The Hawks continue to improve and will continue to improve providing the resign Mike Bibby. The most important move they can make this summer is to retain the 31 year old point guard. Last year he made 14million and they will have to be close to that to keep him. If someone manages to lure him away, there is no viable option on the team. They have the 19th pick in the draft. However, that won't yield them a player that is ready to step in. There are three other options:

In continuation of my post on 04.30.2009 it’s time to take a look at the East and everything it has brought us so far. And to think, it’s only the first round!
Detroit Pistons versus Cleveland Cavaliers. There’s quite a few of us who are still scratching our heads and trying to figure out where the positive for Detroit was in the Billups/Iverson trade. Winning their games by an average of 15.5 points, Cleveland sent the Pistons home for the season with just one question: “How quick can we get Allen Iverson out of a Pistons jersey?” A quick side note: Cleveland is averaging a higher winning margin on the road than they are at home this post-season. That’s not good news for Miami or Atlanta.

Okay, Lakers' fans and bloggers (particularly C Strickland), the Lakers and Kobe should be worried because even if you do make the Finals, which the entire city of Boston thinks is a big if, (Denver/Houston/Portland would all give you a run), Cleveland is not your only issue.

The Celtic's defense showed up huge against the Atlanta Hawks who the C's have beat 3 times this year, but only by a total of 10 points; two of those games the C's won by only 1 point which gives Atlanta the feeling that they can beat the C's especially after last year's 1st round (taking the Celts to 7). But after last night's win, 104-92, having 10 blocks, the C's were sending a message: "get it out of our house".

For better or worse, fan balloting has been cast and counted, and the responsibility of correcting mistakes, filling bench spots and inevitably producing a snub or two rests on the shoulders of the head coaches around the league.

I like this year's version of the Atlanta Hawks. I really do. I think we have it all together now for a playoff run. I honestly think we can compete with the team we have, without any major shakeups or moves at the trade deadline. I don't think anybody in the NBA can guard Josh Smith. Joe Johnson is the leader and scorer, and simply gets the job done without hurting the team. Bibby is a proven veteran and has experience. Al Horford works his tail off and will NEVER give you less than 110% effort. I hope we can continue to play strong and up to our abilities. With the stretch of tough games we've recently played in, I think it has put the NBA world on notice to our ability. Let's keep it up, Hawks!

Last night, the Mavs trailed the entire game until the final seconds to beat the Clippers. This is obviously far from an impressive outing. We're talking about the Clippers here. Their record is now 3-14. Dallas should be running laps around the Clippers. They shouldn't need to come from behind to beat them by just 2 points.

After seeing their lead slip away in the second half of Saturday night's devastating loss to Oklahoma City, the Memphis Grizzlies face their toughest mental task of the season Wednesday in Atlanta. It may not be significant in the long run, but for the sake of the team's psyche, this game is huge. They let a golden opportunity get away from them against the Thunder, and they must come out tonight and show that they have put that performance behind them

If you look at half the box score of the Bulls 113-108 loss to the suddenly high flying Atlanta Hawks you’d think the Bulls would have handed the young Atlanta team its first loss of the year.

“I just wanted to shoot it in his face,” Bryant said of the late 3-pointer. “I knew I was due.”
Wow. If you've ever wanted to hear determination to win this year, that was it. I'm sold. The Lakers will win the Championship this year. But they haven't even played Boston yet right? Doesn't matter, the simple fact that Kobe knew would be guarding him and the fact that he wanted to hit the shot in his face speaks volumes to me.

Before you say anything, I know, I know, I know, but this side gig (as enriching as it is) doesn’t exactly pay the bills (or the bar tab, whatever the case may be) at all, so I’ve been putting most of my energy into my alter ego. Dave the outdoor enthusiast and salesman, which hasn’t exactly left me with enough time to really share any of my sports related nuggets of wisdom with y’all. BY the way, at this time I’d like to just put it out there that I am submitting applications for an unpaid internship position as my research assistant (quick, find me Ryan Howard’s OPS!) and stenographer (translation: follow me to the bar with a tape recorder to find out what I really think about Derek Jeter). Send in a résumé and a cover letter, and I’ll let you know.

"It's not a game, it's an arms race" - Kanye West and Fallout Boy belt this hook over and over again on a recent hit with that same title. In that context, Kanye and the Fallout Boy guys are referring to the battle of musical artists not only surviving in a competitive worldwide market, but one with hindrances around every music sharing online ripping program. While that's an issue for another day and another blogsite, it's relevance is crucial when talking about the current state of Major League baseball and the National Basketball Association.

ATLANTA -- With a swipe of his pen, Mike Woodson will remain as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.
Good move.
When things go wrong, the coach often gets the blame. But has any coach in recent professional sports history inherited more of a mess than Woodson, whose four years on the job has been marked by a complete overhaul of the roster, a 13-win season, mostly empty seats at Philips Arena, a failed move by then-general manager Billy Knight to fire him, and a nasty ownership spat that still sits unresolved in the courts.

Today's tangent is inspired by Raymond (shockingly, with me on this one) and Matt Stauffer, who has posed a challenge to me by asserting that the Celtics will lose to either Detroit or the winner of the Western Conference for a few key reasons. Following the game one victory for Boston, I thought I'd address a few of his concerns (convenient that I waited until a resounding Celtics victory to start talking smack, isn't it?). Hey, hey, easy now, I'm not fixin' to start a war or anything, in fact I respect the feedback and the fact that somebody is actually reading my posts (anyone else? ...Beuller?). I'm only out to address the argument and provide as complete a rebuttal as I can, so without further delay, let's get started.

I could officially care less about the Celtics road record this postseason. After seeing the way the Celtics have played at home against some tough competition, I don't think that anybody, not even the mighty Detroit Pistons can beat the Celtics in Boston this year. The players are hungry and the city is too, and we can all smell a championship now.

Well, I suppose that I am getting what I wanted. The Cleveland Cavaliers are in Boston for tonight's opening game of the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Celtics. A month or two ago, I boldly stated that I wanted the Celtics to play Cleveland in the second round because they are so inconsistent and flawed (LeBron James aside) and I thought that the Celtics had a good chance of beating them. Judging by the way LeBron performed against the Wizards and the way the Wizards performed against LeBron, perhaps I should have been pulling for the upset all along (I was, secretly. Nobody in their right mind really wants to play LeBron James, right Gil?).

I'm upset that I didn't get to watch game 7 of the Celtics/Hawks Beatdown in Beantown on Sunday, but this gig doesn't exactly pay the bills, so alas I was working for the man instead of cheering loudly and laughing my ass off as the Hawks got served in brutal fashion in Boston. The game speaks for itself (likely won't stop me from speaking for it), and it provided a thunderous and definitive answer to all the doubters and haters (Zaza Pachulia got a personal notice of defeat, the back court pick from KG that leveled the untalented center).

Out all the first round matchups I find it very suprising that the Atlanta Hawks took the Boston Celtics into game seven. I was suprised the Hawks made the playoffs in the first place. Was this a collapse by the juggernaut Celts or did the young Hawks play some of the best basketball of their life?
Posted by Cameron Clow | No comments yet
The Celtics seven game series with the Hawks was a beneficial experience for the Celtics. A team that had never played with each other in the playoffs was able to see what they were really made of. The Hawks, granted they are an extremely young and inexperienced team, pushed the Celtics to their limit. But the Celtics responded admirably by absolutely pounding the Hawks in a decisive game seven, ending any hope at all that their team would win.

Come on... really? What a nightmare. There's not too much to say, other than the officials hosed Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics yet again. Paul Pierce fouled out on the ticky-tackiest of calls (on a foul that hadn't been called all series), and the Hawks had more than forty attempts at the free throw line, while the Celtics had only 25 attempts from the stripe Regardless, the Celtics still had a chance to win it at the buzzer, and they failed to execute anything resembling an offensive set or a game plan. And they had

Only three hours and ten minutes until the Hawks and Celtics tip off game 6 in Atlanta, so until then I figure I'll spend the beautiful afternoon rambling on and on about other news in the basketball world. So I apologize, but this post will have little or nothing to do with my beloved hometown Celtics, but does concern another one of my favorite teams in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns.

Now that's more like it. The Celtics have put the Hawks on the ropes with a resounding and convincing victory in game 5 last night. Everything that was going wrong for Boston in games 3 and 4 seems to have been solved by playing in front of their home crowd, and similarly, everything that was going right for the Hawks evaporated into thin air as the road team. I suppose that it just goes to show how huge an advantage a raucous home crowd can be in a playoff series. That being said, I think that the Celtics are poised to break the cycle in this series and finish the Hawks off in game 6 in Atlanta.

Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming. It seems as though the Atlanta Hawks lost their scripts for games 3 and 4 of this first round series against my beloved Boston Celtics, and are ad-libbing some kind of horrible nightmare that currently has the series headed back to Boston tied at two games apiece. I guess they didn't fully read the lay-down-and-die directive that the media handed them and decided to spice things up a bit. Kudos to them, but I'm not sweating yet (and not just because it's still goddamned cold here in Portland).

I'm trying real hard to remember the old saying that any NBA playoff series doesn't really begin until the home team loses a game, because the Atlanta Hawks have proven to be more than a handful in the opening round of the Eastern Conference postseason. Atlanta edged the Celtics again on Monday night, 97-92, to tie their best-of-7 quarterfinal series at 2-2 and put a temporary stop on the Banner 17 t-shirts that were being printed in The Hub. All that Celtics-Lakers nostalgia Finals talk seems like ancient history now, as Boston finds itself in a dogfight against a young, hungry team that took advantage of a Celtics' bunch that played some questionable basketball in Game 4.

They are finally here. After months of riveting basketball and a Western Conference race that went down to the last night of the season, they are here. Of course, I would be talking about the 2008 NBA Playoffs. The playoffs that have a chance to be the best in a long time. When was the last time a 50-win team is an 8 seed and has basically no chance of winning their first round season? When was the last time 2 of the best teams in the lead and 2 of the 5 teams that have a chance at winning it all, met in the first round? Forget all of that, when was the last time people were excited to begin the 2 month stretch for the title? Before any of this can begin we must take a look at each series and make some (gulp!!!) predictions.

It's been reported that Paul Pierce has been icing his knees lately and wouldn't mind a rest. While this may seem troubling to Celtics fans, it's actually just a nice means for me to explain for the 365,872 time why it is soooooo nice to play in the Eastern Conference of the NBA.

The Bulls are 15 games below .500. They have 13 games left on the schedule. And, are 3 games out of the 8th team in the Eastern Conference.
In other words, the Bulls have their work cut out for them. It's plain as a clear day. They face the improved Atlanta Hawks at home tonight, and have to win this game. Then, on Wednesday night, they go on the road to play Philadelphia in another important game. That would be payback time, for the game they let slip away, losing 110-106 at home. Basically, these are must win games for the Bulls. They could pass the Pacers who play at New Orleans tonight. They are a half-game behind Indiana. A win over the Hawks gets them going in the right direction.

I know it's more traditional to do this kind of report after the first twenty games. I, however, am a very non-traditional fellow. So here is your twenty-six game report.
Let's start with what we know about the Dallas Mavericks: nothing. Okay, we know a couple of things. However, if you take everything we know and shine a light on it, what you end up looking at is, well, nothing. At least nothing of any significance. But let’s try anyway.
